Is there a perfect boat for fishing St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island? Absolutely not.
St. Simons Island has one of the most diverse fisheries in the world and no one boat can do it all. I have bought enough boats trying to find that perfect one to know that it can’t be done.
The best thing to do is to figure out what type of fishing you do the most and buy a boat that is suitable for that. If it happens to be capable of doing more, than that is a great bonus. I’ve found that trying to get a boat that does it all just means that it does nothing well.
You also want to consider your budget. There is no sense buying a boat that is capable of going offshore fishing if you will never spend the money on gas to fill it up. Why have a boat that only sees the water once or twice a year?
I’ve paid for a lot of mistakes buying boats. The best advice I can give you is to think long and hard about what you have the desire to do and what you can afford. Time should be a big factor as well. Before I became a fishing guide there was a time that my boats didn’t move for a year. I went fishing with my friends because they had boats that were suited for what we were doing.
Think about it!
